政府は電源構成に占める原子力の割合を倍増させたいが「原子力ルネサンス」はまだ遠く By Jason Douglas and Junko Fukutome 【東京】東京から約290キロ離れた日本海沿いの砂浜海岸で、巨大な原子炉が10年以上の運転停止期間を経て、間もなく再稼働する。 柏崎刈羽原子力発電所6号機の再稼働は、2011年の東日本大震災とそれに伴う津波により福島第一原発でメルトダウン（炉心溶融）が発生し、世界最悪レベルの原子力災害を経験したこの国にとって一つの節目となる。 再稼働する柏崎刈羽原発6号機は、福島で崩壊した原子炉と同様の設計であり、2011年の事故を受けて原発全54基の運転を停止して以来、再稼働される原子炉としては最大規模となる。 再稼働は、何年にもわたる安全検査や、自然災害から原子炉を保護するための新たな建設工事、そして原子炉が再び動いても近隣住民がリスクにさらされないと保証する長年の取り組みを経て実現した。津波による浸水防止策として、海抜15メートルの鉄筋コンクリート製の堤防が建設された。 (…)
