17 February 2025 [ko] ESG경제 (South Korea) 영국, 원전 건설 속도 낸다...SMR 승인, 원전 부지 규제 완화 에너지 가격과 탈탄소화 ‘두마리 토끼’ 잡을지 주목 김현경 • 6 February 2025 [ESG경제신문=김현경 기자] 영국 정부가 신규 원자력 발전소 건설에 속도를 내기 위해 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 건설을 승인하고 원전 건설 부지 제한을 철폐하는 등 인허가 규제를 완화했다. 영국 정부는 6일 보도자료를 통해 이같이 밝혔다. 정부는 영국에서 가장 최근 완공된 원전 프로젝트가 1995년에 이뤄졌다면서 “더욱 깨끗하고 저렴한 에너지를 확보하기 위한 글로벌 경쟁에서 영국은 뒤처져 있다”고 자평했다. 현재 영국엔 3.2GW 규모의 원전 ‘힝클리 포인트 C’ 단 한 개가 건설 중에 있다. 그러나 가디언지에 따르면 지난 2016년 착공 승인을 받은 힝클리 원전은 인플레이션 등 비용 상승과 각종 규제로 인한 공사 지연으로 고전하고 있다. 정부는 특히 이번 규제 개편이 “SMR이 영국 내 최초로 건설될 수 있는 길을 열어줄 것”이라고 강조했다. 영국 지속가능성 매체 (…)
