Construction Start at Fuqing Unit Six

24 December 2015

Construction began 22 December 2015 with the laying of basemat concrete on the second Hualong One reactor at the Fuqing site, in Fujian province in south east China. Construction of the first Hualong One reactor began in May 2015, also at the Fuqing site. The Fuqing nuclear power plant project is owned by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) subsidiary China Nuclear Power Company (51%), Huadian Fuxin Energy Company (39%) and Fujian Investment and Development Group (10%).

The design is based on the China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) ACPR-1000 design, a more advanced version of CGN’s Generation II CPR-1000 and CNNC’s ACP-1000 designs.

The ACP-1000 is a 1,100 megawatt, three-loop pressurized water reactor. In November 2015 an agreement was reached between the CGN and Argentina for the export of the Hualong One.

The laying of concrete at the second Fuqing unit brings to 22 the number of reactors now under construction in China, with 31 reactors operating.
