Yangjiang‑1 in China Connected to the Grid

According to the trade press, Yangjiang unit 1 was connected to the grid on 31 December 2013. Located in Guangdong Province in southern China, the Yangjiang 1 nuclear reactor is a CPR-1000 design with significant unresolved safety issues. All six reactors at Yangjiang are scheduled to be in operation by 2018 with a combined capacity of around 6,100 MWe. The first four reactors at the site are of the standardized CPR-1000 design, with units 5 and 6 designated ACPR-1000.

The Yangjiang Nuclear Power Company began construction of unit 1 at Yangjiang in December 2008. It is planned that the reactor will begin full commercial operation within the next few months.
