What do Turkey, Egypt and Bangladesh have in common? Through its state-owned entity, Rosatom, Russia is building these countries’ first-ever power plants. It is also a pivotal supplier of enriched uranium — a fuel necessary for most commercial nuclear power plants.

Russia’s influence doesn’t stop here. Moscow has also signed numerous nuclear energy partnerships with countries in Africa and Asia. Amid rising global energy demand, renewed discussions around the role of nuclear power are raising questions about the geopolitical implications of such cooperation.
