Ningde‑3 Reactor Connected to the Chinese Grid

Ningde-3 Connected to the Chinese Grid

WNISR, 25 March 2015

The third CPR-1000 reactor at Ningde, was connected to the grid on 21 March 2015. The Ningde power plant, owned by China General Nuclear (CGN), is located on three islands in Fuding city in the northeast of Fujian province on the coast of the Taiwan Straits. As reported by WNISR, there are significant safety concerns over the aged design of the CPR-1000. There have been delays in start up of Ningde-3, originally scheduled to begin operation in 2014, with unit 4 (also a CPR-1000) now expected to be operational from 2016 rather than later this year.
